Nobody wants to attend your status meeting!

Status meetings are often people talking about project delays, scope creep, and work not going as expected. What is the value in people sitting in a meeting to talk about work? Everyone is better served if people can do work instead.
Ask yourself what value the status meeting brings and more importantly, what is the return on investment? Your status meeting is probably expensive…and likely unproductive. Updates probably sound very similar from week to week and there is little progress.
It’s time to think and work differently to eliminate the status meeting. How?
💡 Limit Work In Progress (WIP) and then limit it again
💡 Focus on Quality
💡 Deliver High Value Features
So how do you know the status? You know because the work is done! When teams are continuously delivering high value, high quality work there is no need to constantly get updates. Enabling teams to have time to work and find flow results in doing work instead of talking about doing work.
What about Daily Standup? This is not a status meeting! This is an opportunity to inform the team of what you are doing and where you have blockers. Keep it true to it's purpose:
✅ What you did yesterday
✅ What you’re doing today
✅ Blockers
If your daily standup is a status meeting, change the approach or eliminate it! Nobody wants to attend your status meeting!
